RMcH states: Employees only have another few weeks to opt out of auto-enrolment must be done by 31 August 2026 and to claim back their proportion of payment made previously.

To claim back your money from Ireland’s automatic retirement savings scheme (MyFutureFund), you must stay enrolled for an initial six months. You can then request a refund of your personal contributions during your specific two-month opt-out window in months seven and eight.

How the Refund Process Works

  • Wait period: You must remain in the scheme for the first 6 months before any refund option opens.
  • Opt-out window: You can only ask for your money back during months 7 and 8.
  • What you get back: You get a refund of your own contributions only.
  • What stays in the fund: Employer contributions and State top-up money stay in your pension pot and cannot be claimed as a cash refund.
  • Future windows: You also get a new chance to opt out and claim back contribution differences whenever the fixed contribution rates go up.

How can I suspend?

The fastest and easiest way to submit a suspension request is by using the MyFutureFund employee portal.

  • Alternatively, you can also download and complete the paper request form and return it to NAERSA.

You will have 48 hours to cancel your suspension request after it is submitted. This cooling-off period gives you time to change your mind.

  • The quickest way to cancel your request is through the MyFutureFund employee portal.
  • You can also cancel your request by contacting NAERSA at + 353 1 568 9555, Monday-Friday, 9AM to 6PM (excluding public and bank holidays).

Suspensions last for a minimum of 12 months. To re-enrol in MyFutureFund:

  • You can select a specific date to re-enrol when you are suspending. NAERSA will then automatically re-enrol you on that date, provided you are still eligible.
  • You can also submit a re-enrolment request directly to NAERSA. For more information on this, see the section on ‘How Can I Re-Enrol?’ below.
  • If you have not re-enrolled after two years, you will be automatically re-enrolled, provided you are still eligible.
